Name: Missy Carvin
What my card should really say: ResearchDesignerNoiseMakerCreativityGirl
Education: BA in History and Theatre Arts from Hartwick College
Work History: Working for New Directions is Missy’s first foray into “corporate” culture, but it seems to be sticking. Previously she worked for the Girl Scouts of Westchester*Putnam and for Historic Hudson Valley.
Missy has been working for New Directions Consulting off and on since she was old enough to hand out questionnaires and say “Please write your name and ID number.” In this go-round, she has been focusing on market research design and analysis and is excited to be launching our Innovation Services. She is also an online moderator and is qualified to facilitate the Osborn-Parnes Creative Problem Solving Process.
Professional Memberships: Qualitative Research Consultants Association; QRCA Creativity & Innovation Special Interest Group; QRCA Online Research Special Interest Group; Creative Education Foundation, Florida Creativity Alliance.
Interests: Most of Missy’s time is currently taken up being Mommy to her wonderful kids, Abby and Christopher. After the kids go to bed, though, Missy can be found leading a troop of Girl Scouts, getting involved in activities at church, or binge-watching something mindless on Netflix.
Fun Fact: Missy’s birthday places her on the cusp of Virgo and Libra, as well as falling on the first day of fall about every 3 years.
Name: Brian Carvin
Title: Director of IT/Facilities
What My Business Card Should Really Say: TechDude
Education: BA in History and Religious Studies from Hartwick College
Work History: From 1999-2000, Brian worked for Getty Images in various capacities, always in the technical side. Starting as a keywording specialist, Brian eventually worked his way to a position way above his paygrade as Digital Operations Specialist. He joined New Directions in 2012.
Interests: When Brian isn’t parenting his daughter Abby and son Christopher, he spends most of his time reading various Science Fiction books and being an all-around nerd of the house.
Fun Fact: Brian has watched Star Wars more times than everyone else in the office combined. (Including the prequels.)
Title: Howler and Runner-in-Chief
Education: Petsmart Beginner Class Graduate , 2015
Work History: Rosie is a welcome addition to the New Directions family, although she’s not entirely convinced that a working life is for her. She enjoys spending time in various dog beds throughout the office and howling at intruders (including squirrels) while cowering in fear behind the nearest familiar human. She does not aspire to be part of the office security detail.
Professional Memberships: Medieval Hounds of America
Fun Facts: Rosie is able to stretch her body in such a way to reach any treat, on any surface, at any time.
Name: Trapper John, MD (answers to Trapper)
Title: Director of Playtime
Education: Medical school, so he says
Work History: Trapper has spent his entire career at New Directions Consulting and happily takes a position on the security detail. He protects the office from mail carriers, lizards, and too much quiet. Trapper can often be found using his Shepherd lineage to full effect, keeping his co-workers in line.
Professional Memberships: Dog Doctors
Fun Facts: Trapper has eaten more plastic items than all of the other dogs we've ever had, combined.
